Our flagship product - the Classic Leash is designed, tested, and built to endure a harsh marine environment, and to serve indefinitely as a comfortable and dependable lead for you and your dog.

The Classic Leash is 6 feet long, with a 9 inch long handle. The bottom of the handle clamp is roughly a foot down from the top of the leash and shaped to comfortably fit in your hand, so you can easily shorten the leash by about a foot by passing it up your arm and holding onto the clamp.

Rope: Vintage Sta-Set by New England Ropes, 7/16"

The Classic Leash uses the Vintage Sta-Set line of marine rope from New England Ropes. Vintage Sta-Set was developed primarily for sailing - it is a double braid polyester rope with high strength, low stretch, water and UV resistance, and it stays comfortable in the hand indefinitely with very minimal care.

Hardware: 316 Stainless Steel

Every piece of hardware used in the Classic Leash is 316 Stainless Steel, chosen for its corrosion resistance and durability. We don't use brass, nickel-plated zinc, aluminum, etc. 316 Stainless Steel is the most expensive of the lot, but it is the best choice for structural hardware that is built to live in a marine environment.

Clamps: Mahogany

The clamps are custom designed and produced in mahogany, and finished with walnut oil and beeswax. You shouldn't feed these to your dog for lunch, but you can rest assured that they're finished with food grade materials rather than synthetic coatings.

Cleaning

Wash the leash with fresh water and a small amount of dish soap. Rinse until the water runs clear, then hang it to dry. If your leash spends a lot of time in saltwater, giving it a quick freshwater rinse afterward will help preserve the wood - but it should hold up just fine if you skip this. The leash is designed to handle regular use around the ocean.

Maintenance

The only part of the leash that benefits from occasional maintenance is the mahogany handle. Over time, exposure to sun and saltwater may dry the wood slightly. When it begins to look dry, wipe on a very thin coat of oil and allow it to absorb into the wood.
